Located just outside of Pittsburg, resides a state park that is full of fun, relaxation, and a beautiful landscape. Lake Bob Sandlin State Park is home to a melting pot of ecoregions that is just waiting for you and your family to come explore!

THE ENVIROMENT

“Lake Bob Sandlin State Park is where the East meets the West.”

There is a very interesting dynamic that exists within the natural environment here at Bob Sandlin State Park. Chris Caswell, Superintendent, explained to us that the park is located where the Piney Woods of the East meets the Savannah State of the West. As you walk the miles of trails here at the park you notice great mixtures of flora and fauna. While along these wooded trails, you can read many plaques that highlight some of these unique environmental features!

FUN AROUND EVERY TURN

“Every day is like a walk in the park.”

Chris shared with us what it is like taking a visit to Lake Bob Sandlin State Park. With friendly visitors, helpful staff, and a relaxing environment, having fun here is easy.

During your visit, take part in awesome activities such as hiking, biking, and kayaking! Lake Bob Sandlin State Park has a very convenient canoe/kayak launch area near the bridge of the State Park Cove. There, you can easily take out a rental or set sail on your own.

One very unique attraction that the park has to offer, especially for history buffs, are the remnants of Fort Sherman. Located in the day-use area, park guests can visit the peaceful and historic cemetery that was once a part of a Republic of Texas fort from 1838. While you’re there, you can ask a friendly park ranger to give insight into what life was like back then for Texans.

If you’re looking for a place to rest your head while at Lake Bob Sandlin State Park, there are 115 campsites, including cabins and areas for your RV or travel trailer. As we explored some of these camping spots, we were impressed with the amount of space each one provides, with some even having direct lake access. You and your family will absolutely love resting underneath the tall pines and glowing stars each night at these sites.

MULTIPLE FISHING OPTIONS

“This is one of the best fishing lakes in East Texas.”

One of the biggest draws to this state park is the excellent fishing. Land some huge catfish or crappie on their 24hr accessible pier that stretches way out onto Lake Bob Sandlin. During our time here we met some super friendly locals that come once or twice a week to enjoy the incredible fishing specifically here on the pier.

If you want more fishing opportunities, hike to Trout Pond! Located on the North side of the park, this year-round stocked pond is full of fish to catch. You can even visit during the winter months for your chance to catch the prized rainbow trout that is seasonally stocked. Chris shared with us that this is a great pond to get new fishermen and women to get into the sport. Lake Bob Sandlin State Park consistently hosts their Kid Fish classes, which has been introducing the joys of fishing to families for the past 35yrs.

Adventure and rest await, and reservations are simple. Visit the Lake Bob Sandlin State Park website to plan out your visit this weekend!
