Located in the heart of Lufkin, the Museum of East Texas is a center of cultural and artistic expression. Each season, the MET offers a wide variety of art for you and your family to view and enjoy for absolutely NO COST! Here are their current exhibits for this Spring 2024 season:

Jeffie Brewer presents Joy Machine

[February 4 - April 9]

Jeffie Brewer, a Nacogdoches native, has been creating fun and vibrant works for decades. When you view most of Brewer’s creations you are met with a lighthearted and simplistic approach to art. His bright, vibrant sculptures and paintings will bring a smile to your face as you decipher what kind of creature is depicted. Check out Joy Machine this spring!

Bill Walterman’s Shine the Light

[February 4 - April 12]

Bill Walterman’s love for photography blossomed in the late 1970′s. One of his prized series is Shine the Light, a photography collection that captures the essence of what worship and devotion to God looks like in southern black churches. Walterman’s photographs were shot over the span of six years in churches located here in Texas. The series is moving and “communicates the faith.” Catch Shine the Light in the Museum’s chapel room this spring!

The Angelina Photographic Association presents Nature

[February 4 - April 20]

The Angelina Photographic Association, or APA, has helped showcase the works of incredible Deep East Texas photographers for decades now. The Museum of East Texas has become a central location for these specially curated photographs to be displayed. Located in the museum’s Rotary Gallery, you can check out this amazing exhibit that encapsulates the feel of East Texas.

Kay Griffith presents Convergence

[February 4 - April 21]

In the Main Gallery this season, you can view the works of the internationally famous artist, and Texas-native, Kay Griffith. With a total of 65 works of art on display, you will witness many different forms of abstract expression through her mesmerizing oil paintings. The colors and rhythms of her work express the beauty of the Earth along with a sense of a deeper spiritual nature. Don’t miss your chance to admire Griffith’s world-famous Convergence this spring.

George Fidone presents Epiphany

[February 4 - April 21]

George Fidone, local East Texan Pediatrician who specializes in childhood cancers, found the joys of painting later in life. Art quickly became a passion and an area of solitude for George. During the Spring, you can view some of his incredible paintings that highlight the joys of life hung up throughout the hallways of the museum.
