The Tyler Independent School District is home to around 28,300 bright students and 2,700 empowering teachers. Financial struggles can sometimes hinder the opportunities for classroom learning and personal growth. The Tyler ISD Foundation is the bridge between where state and federal funds stop and where academic needs still need to be met. Through local support and donations, the Tyler ISD Foundation turns dreams into reality for so many students and teachers in the district.

ENCOURAGING INNOVATION FOR LEARNING

“Our Grants for Great Ideas encourages educators to think outside the box and bring learning experiences into the classroom for students.”

Suzette Farr, Executive Director of the Tyler ISD Foundation, shared with us tons of ways that their grants are impacting the classroom. One of which is the Grants for Great Ideas! This program aims to support teachers who have a unique, creative approach to help students learn a specific subject or material, but who may not have the funds to achieve their goal. According to Board Member, Courtney Burlison, the Tyler ISD Foundation was able to award around $80,000 this year to various classrooms district-wide in support of these revolutionary ideas! A couple of these fun and impactful strategies for learning include a Book Vending Machine and a clever Math Lock Box Challenge that contains some fun rewards inside.

The Tyler ISD Foundation also offers other grants that provide professional growth for teachers and short-term care for campuses in need. Their Professional Development Grants help pave the way for teachers to master their craft. This could look like a few educators receiving funding to attend workshops, conferences, or seminars that can be utilized to strengthen their curriculum and classroom management. The other grants that are offered include Emergency Grants. This safety net allows for financial aid in case of an unforeseen need that the regular school budget or resources may not cover.

BOOSTING EACH STUDENT’S POTENTIAL

“From the amazing support from our community we were able to provide $65,000 in scholarships to graduating Tyler ISD students.”

Not only is the Tyler ISD Foundation passionate about cultivating an engaging and successful classroom, but they also aim to personally aid students as they leave high school and pursue their future. This is primarily done by their incredible scholarship program. Graduating Tyler ISD students have a chance to receive a life changing gift to help achieve their career and collegiate goals. There are tons of scholarships that are being offered! Like the Tab and Bonnie Beall Scholarship that has been assisting students financially to gain a college education since 2010. There are also many unique scholarships that center around specific trades like the Ray H. Marr Trades Scholarship and Hall Family Foundation Scholarship. More scholarships, information, and applications for all of these wonderful opportunities can be found on their site!

The Tyler ISD Foundation is making a real, practical impact to the thousands of students and teachers that call this district home. If you would like to help support this amazing local non-profit, there are many special events, annual campaigns, and donation opportunities all located on their website!
