Expressions of Beauty: The Works of Nancy A. Berkhouse

Presented by the Palette of Roses Art League and the Nancy A. Berkhouse Estate, Expressions of Beauty celebrates the life and works of the Nancy A. Berkhouse, who was renowned throughout Texas and beyond. Although her initial interest in art was sparked while attending Waynesburg College in Western Pennsylvania, it was after she moved to East Texas in 1960 that her unique gifts truly became manifest. For the next 50 years, Nancy achieved excellence in all genres, but became especially known for her Texas Hill Country landscapes. Her paintings have been purchased by art lovers from across the country and won countless awards, ribbons, and honors.

The Lindale Area Chamber of Commerce is happy to present the Lindale Championship Rodeo. The rodeo is returning to the Cross Brand Cowboy Church and it will be FREE for all to attend thanks to our ticket sponsors! Elliott Spearman is an optimistic young writer who has planned out his entire life based on the success of the novels he has yet to write. When his Uncle Melvin asks him to house-sit his apartment in the big city while he’s away on a business trip, Elliott sees it as the perfect opportunity to finish his novel. However, he soon discovers that the apartment building is filled with kooky characters that become more of a distraction than he anticipated. To make matters worse, the girl next door challenges Elliott’s idealistic view of love. As he confronts reality, Elliott may learn that true love is closer than he thinks. Caddo Artist Series Artist Talk - Indigenous Design

Friday, May 17 and Saturday, May 18 at the rodeo arena behind Malakoff High School. This rodeo is helping to benefit the Malakoff FFA. Come on out and enjoy some bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, bull riding, calf roping, team roping, break away roping, and barrel racing. Admission is 10 dollars for adults, 5 dollars for students and children under five are free.

Embrace the Journey 5K - Walk On Rock On!

Dutch Oven Cooking Demo

  • When: 9am-12pm
  • Where: Lake Tawakoni State Park, Wills Point
  • Cost: $5

Using a Dutch oven, you can sauté, simmer, braise, sear, fry, and bake – if you can imagine it, you can make it! Without a doubt, a Dutch oven is the most versatile piece of camp cookware you can own. Join the Lake Tawakoni State Park Dutch Oven Group at the amphitheater once a month to learn the basics or brush up on your skills. These cooking demos are sure to provide you with all the skills you need and give you a chance to sample some of the many things you can create in a Dutch oven! The group Generally meets the third Saturday each month, from 9AM to 12PM. This program is FREE with park entry ($5 per person aged 13 and older).

Tour of Home Gardens

This annual event is organized by the Garden Capital of Texas Committee to highlight the work of some of Nacogdoches’ most dedicated gardeners. This year’s tour features three private residences, Cindy and Ray Perry at 610 Park St., Alexandra and James Van Kley at 310 Brookshire Dr., and Judy Abbott and Ralph LaRue at 524 Oakview Dr., and the Lanana Creek Trailhead and Frances Shofner Memorial Loop at 3900 N. University Dr. Local Master Gardeners and members of the Pines, Flora and Four Seasons Garden Clubs will serve as docents for the garden tours.

Caddo Mounds State Historic Site Reopening Event

  • When: 10am-3pm
  • Where: Caddo Mounds State Historic Site, Alto
  • Cost: Free

Following its near-total destruction after a tornado in 2019, Caddo Mounds State Historic Site will celebrate its official reopening on Saturday, May 18. The ribbon-cutting ceremony commences at 11:30 a.m. with speakers reflecting on the importance of restoring the site and the resiliency of the Caddo Nation. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the new $2.5 million visitor center and reconstructed grass house and participate in a variety of outdoor activities including: Atlatl dart throwing: Participants will learn about the development of hunting tools, different atlatl styles, and dart throwing techniques. They will then put what they learned to the test by throwing darts at a target using the atlatl. Friction fire demonstration: Visitors will enhance their survival skills as they learn the ancient technique of starting a fire using friction between two objects. Flint Knapping: Learn the ancient art of making arrowheads from stone. Archaeology tour: From 2 - 3 p.m,. archaeologist Victor Galan and Caddo Citizen Lauren Haupt will lead a tour that explores the history and culture of the Caddo people. Cost: The event is free and open to the public.

Fishing with a Ranger

  • When: 1:30pm-2:30pm
  • Where: Martin Creek Lake State Park, Tatum
  • Cost: $4

Come out to fish with our rangers and volunteers at the fishing pier in the day use area. We will be available to help with removing fish and baiting hooks. All equipment and worm bait will be provided. We can show you the ropes if you’ve never fished before, or if you’re experienced you can borrow a rod and some worms and enjoy an afternoon of fishing. Event is free with paid entry to the Park. See you there!

Bags + Brews Cornhole Tournament

Organized and hosted by East Texas Alzheimer’s Alliance and Chase Palmer - Longview Area Cornhole League bringing together cornhole enthusiasts from 4 states with two brackets: competitive and social backyard. The tournament will be held rain or shine. There will be food trucks, beer from local breweries, opportunity to win prizes, and free entry for spectators. This is a family-friendly event.
