Well if you haven’t heard yet, our closest celestial neighbor, the Moon, will be crossing in front of the Sun soon, resulting in a Total Eclipse!

On Monday, April 8th, you will be able to witness this extremely rare natural event right here in East Texas.

Below is a list of some great viewing sights, as well as some local festivals and events that are taking place in celebration of this incredible phenomenon.

Totality Downtown Tyler!

Zip the Eclipse

Totality will begin at 1:41 pm and last a full 4 minutes and 5.1 seconds. Witness the enchanting dance of celestial bodies as the moon gracefully passes between the Earth and the Sun, transforming daylight into an otherworldly twilight. Gain insights into eclipses, marvel at the vastness of our universe, and deepen your understanding of our cosmic existence.

Total Solar Eclipse @ The Sundown

Within our 80-acre property, our event space is situated on a hilltop, providing a beautiful view of the surrounding area.

Between our barn and pavilion, we will have multiple types of vendors that include food, music, handmade goods, and thrifted items. Our pastures will also be open for all to roam and find the perfect viewing spot.

Total Eclipse Event @ Gilmont

Join us in Gilmer, Texas on the path of totality for April’s Total Solar Eclipse Event! In the early afternoon of April 8th, the moon will pass between the Sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun. Gilmont will provide eye protection so you can experience this unique phenomenon and witness the effect it has on creation (spoiler: nocturnal animals will awaken, day time critters will be lulled to sleep, and leaves will make unique shadows). The piney woods of East Texas is the ideal environment to witness this solar event!

Solar Eclipse Viewing @ The Arboretum

  • Where: Longview Arboretum and Nature Center

Looking for a cool spot to view the solar eclipse? Join us at the Arboretum on April 8th! Due to overwhelming interest in the event, we have decided to open our doors at 11:00 AM for anyone wishing to get settled well in advance of the start! See below for the timing of the eclipse.

Please park in the Maude Cobb parking lot and enter through the West Gate. Admission cost is just our normal admission fee to the gardens ($5 per person, kids 6 and under free!) Kona Ice will be present for snowcones.

Bring lawn chairs/blankets to kick back and relax, or bring a picnic lunch! Participate in our amateur photography contest, listen to the Gregg County Master Gardeners talk about plant reactions, or view our live telescope feed on a screen!

We will have eclipse glasses for sale for $1 until sell-out, just bring yourself!
