One-Day Getaway is a series created in partnership with Peltier Subaru in Tyler. Throughout the year we will be visiting locations outside of East Texas that make for unique and exciting ‘One-Day Getaway’ for you, your family or friends. If you know a destination we should visit, let us know.

Stagecoach Road is claimed to be “the most haunted trail in Texas”, would you make the drive?

Pre-American Civil War, in the 1850s, the Marshall-Shreveport Stagecoach line made weekly departures, providing supplies to multiple communities, until the arrival of the Texas & Pacific Railroad.

Now, the historic Stagecoach Road runs 8 miles and is located 5 1/2 miles Northeast of Marshall around Texas 43 and Pine Bluff Road. This red dirt road is still easily traveled, thanks to Harrison County maintaining it and making sure the repairs don’t damage the historical look.

Speaking of its history, there have been more than a few stories of strange sightings and paranormal/supernatural activity reported after a drive down the road at night. The road has been worn down from the buggies and horses’ hooves, in some places bringing the road down 12 feet below the tree line, giving it a weathered look that only adds to the spooky atmosphere, especially once the sun starts to go down and the shadows lengthen.

The most popular stories include the tiny handprints that appear on the windows, or in the dust along your vehicle, and the woman in a white dress who is still looking for her lost children along the road. Whether the legends are true or not, it hasn’t stopped visitors and paranormal investigators from heading down the road to find our for themselves.

This One-Day Getaway was made possible by the 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness, perfect for going off the beaten path and exploring East Texas.
