Adventures to the fair can bring back sweet memories of childhood, filled with awe and wonder as you navigate the aroma and lights of the fair grounds and carnival games. Fairs around us can vary in size, and for 136 years the largest of them all has been close by for East Texans to drive over and enjoy!

The State Fair of Texas, which is the largest state fair and runs for the longest amount of time each year, calls Dallas home, and it continues to bring the spirit of the Lone Star State to it’s over 2 million a year visitors.

“The State Fair of Texas is a non-profit organization, we host the fair every year to raise money to help support all of our non-profit initiatives,” said Karissa Condoianis, the Senior Vice President of Public Relations at the State Fair of Texas. “We have our Big Tex scholarship program, we have Big Tex Urban Farms, we have all of our youth livestock and agriculture programing, and we have a state fair giving program in this community to give more money and funding to other non-profits in South Dallas.”

When you visit, you can expect many of the classic staples of the fair, such as Big Tex greeting you, live music every night of the fair with 3 different stages to check out, the Midway that will give you that classic fair experience with games and attractions to keep the smile wide on your face, and of course the shows and events that happen daily for those of all ages, such as the Starlight Parade, new for 2022, multiple children’s shows, the rodeo, pig races, dog shows, fireworks shows every night, the always entertaining Midway Barker, and so much agriculture experiences you don’t know where to begin.

“We have so many new things, whether is the 41 new foods for the 2022 State Fair of Texas, but we also have what I’m most excited about, our nightly Starlight Parade,” said Condoianis. “We partnered with a float maker in New Orleans, who does all the big extravagant floats for Mardi Gras.”

The State Fair of Texas runs until Sunday, October 23rd.
