Adam Smith, a man once named the “fastest oyster shucker in Cleveland” at the Stone Mad “oysterfest” competition, now takes his skill on the road. Operating his own traveling oyster-shucking and serving business, called “CLE on the Half-Shell”, Smith is a pro when it comes to all things oyster.

He kindly showed us how to find, shuck (and eat) fresh oysters without fear, mess or bodily harm in the video above. If you are looking to enjoy some oysters at home and test your own skills, here are some great seafood retail locations in Cleveland that pride themselves on the freshest catches.

Cantanese Classic Seafood – 1600 Merwin Avenue, Cleveland (in the Flats). Adam’s go-to shop, this family-owned business has been operating since 1971, and has extensive seafood offerings of every kind.

Kate’s Fish – 1979 West 25th Street. Located in the historic West Side Market, this fishmonger stall is a local favorite, offering both day-boat quality prepped and fresh fish, shellfish and seafood-based salads and sides.

Farm House Foods – 1600 Merwin Avenue, Cleveland & 20524 Southgate Park Blvd., Maple Hts. Farm House Foods has provided quality fresh and frozen seafood, meats and poultry to Cleveland area customers since 1974.

Seven Seas Seafood – 15725 Lorain Ave, Cleveland. A West Park staple since 1964, they sell fresh fish and seafood, along with deep fried fish dinners, clam bakes, homemade clam chowder, and their most famous products: Al’s Gourmet Shrimp Sauce and Tartar Sauce.
