Jefferson General Store is an old-time, old-fashioned general store located in Downtown Jefferson. The general store was opened in 1979 after Cliff Bode bought the building, which was built in the 1860s and had served the community as a hardware store for over a hundred years.

“We are in a great old building here in Downtown Jefferson,” said Cliff. “I moved here [in 1979] and we decided it was a great building that we’d like to offer a general store to the public. Since then we have transitioned to a more current store offering gifts everyone would enjoy. We have a soda fountain, we make pralines here, we have a huge toy department, we have local jams and jellies, it just goes on and on.”

For over 40 years owners Cliff and Anna Bode have wanted Jefferson General Store to be an experience for both young and old.

“We love it when someone walks through the door and feels like they’re stepping back in time,” said Anna. “You walk in, you smell the pralines cooking, you smell the waffle cones, even the smell of the candy and the jams and jellies. Right as you walk in, we want you to feel like this is someplace that [you] want to be, and that [you] want to come back to.”

Jefferson General Store is located at 113 East Austin Street in Jefferson.
